Kindergartners...Cat and Mouse & Cat!

Last week, Madame Imogen read, in both French and English, a delightful story entitled Anatole, by Eve Titus.  It is a Caldecott honor recipient  and includes beautiful black, white and grey ink washes in its illustrations.   It also includes, as Madame pointed out,  the colors of the French flag.

This week, Madame  followed up with a sequel, Anatole and the Cat .  Alexandre was helpful in pointing out key words and interjected comments about the characters (in French of course.)   The Kindergartners listened attentively to each story while  learning about translations for cheese, mouse,  cat and yellow.  Coincidentally, we encountered a cat on the playground at recess  prior to French class.   The golden eyed cat seemed a bit tentative at first then became curious and playful.  It also seemed to take a special liking to Lilith.  The cat surveyed the playground to the children's delight then ventured outside of the fence  twice (first over then under.)   That's what you  call extending a theme.  Watch out Anatole!

  1. YOU take the best pictures! Lilith and Emma and myself stop weekly at the Ann Arbor Cat Clinic on our way home from school. She's not as into it as her sister and myself. We love those cats, but she's learning to hold them etc. We also have 4 cats at our house as part of the family. They are a big part of our lives! So I can imagine that she has some cat vibes. Love how she comes home with some words in french now. I laugh when she asks me how to say something in french. Mommy doesn't speak french.
