Ks Trip to the AADL with the A2SO

Kindergartners ventured out to the Downtown Main Library on last Friday for a fabulous Kinder-Concert:  Music & Motion with Gari Stein and the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra. We were warmly greeted by Master Storyteller, Laura and escorted to our seats in the multipurpose room.

The program stated that " The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra began these interactive concerts in 2005 to educate, engage, and inspire the youngest members of our audience"....and "provides a guided introduction to one particular instrument of the orchestra."

Two musicians were featured- a violist and a pianist.  The concert also included a book read by Ms. Stein entitled Listen to the Rain by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault accompanied by the musicians playing reminiescent sounds of "falling rain." Other selections featured  autumn leaves to take home and a lively Waltz (Waltz in C minor for solo piano by Chopin.)

We partner- danced in scattered leaves and sashayed left then right while in group circles.  We also rocked our "babies" (or each other) to sleep during a beautiful lullabye. After the concert was over, the pianist allowed for a photo opt. and a peek inside of her instrument.  Ms. Stein gave everyone a special nuzzle with her bunny hand puppet upon exiting.  We were happy that P.E. Teacher Shan was able to attend with us and she stated how much she enjoyed the event including the music and movement.  We even had a future SKer and her Mom join us at the concert and computer time.

We afterward spent a leisurely time browsing books and a great deal of time playing games on the computers.  We quickly watched the children grasp the concepts of the "mouse," "left clicks," game instructions, taking turns on 2- person games, and the very helpful F9 (escape from game) prompt.

Upon leaving, we also had the added treat of watching the construction truck mix and pour cement into the new library wing's foundation.

  1. When I asked how this went she told me all about the cement trucks and said she wished I was there so I could have seen the trucks. Apparently the songs and story telling weren't as exciting as cement trucks!
