Dr. George's Balloon Camera Experiment with Ks on Science Tuesdays

Ks observed an initial video of themselves testing the camera.

We then ventured out to the sidewalk area along side of the school.

Dr. George attached the camera to a set of balloons.

He also explained that attaching a video camera to the balloon was a delicate process.  If the camera was jostled too much, the camera could shut off and we could fail to acquire or lose our data.

There is nothing like a balloon that says "LOVE" to add a little something to the experience.

Dr. George has everyone send out a little "love" on the recorder.  "Hi, Mom!"  (and "Dad!")

The power drill had a fishing wire spool attachment as a feed for the balloon.

We have lift off!

Although Dr. George made every attempt to clear the nearby trees, the wind had its own ideas.
This made for a very dizzying video watch.

Finally, successful clearance.  Faces tell it all!

The Balloon Cam reached great heights and we lost sight of it only momentarily.  We gazed at clouds  instead.   A passing airplane also provided a distraction.

Dr. George returns triumphantly and hopeful!   The camera was still attached and the recording light was still flickering.

We received nice footage that Dr. George showed us upon returning to the classroom.

(Anybody know an efficient way  to attach video to a blog?)
