December's School Wide Theme: The Human Body
Kindergartner's Chapter book selection The Bookstore Mouse by Peggy Christian and illustrated by Gary A. Lippincott
This is an interesting tale about a mouse named Cervantes who resides, of course, in the bookshelves of a bookstore. It is no ordinary establishment, however, for when Cervantes is frightened deeper into the shelves by the resident cat, he topples through a passageway marked "scriptorium" and discovers a whole new world inside. Kindergartners have been intrigued by the mouse's chance encounter with a "scribe" and a stranger carrying a secret coded message through the rain. They were so enthralled with the prospect of a partially washed out message that they created some of their own "blotted out" notes using markers and a heavy Tuesday downpour. Kindergartners also examined the feel of a piece of parchment paper and noted the "fancy" script used in the story's secret message and the text on the parchment. Madame also explained that some of our vocabulary words found in the story i.e. "armarious" is Latin in origin and means "one who looks after the armor. The literary adventure begins! P.S. Latin instruction for Kindergartners begins in January!
Remember: Every Monday and Wednesday is P.E. Day. Please send in tennis shoes or store them in cubbies. Or, if you prefer, you may store them in the Kindergarten classroom on the shelf near the door.
Thanks!

Dear Parents,
You're invited to come in and share your Family's traditions. Kindergartners have been reading and talking about various culture's traditions, rituals, and family histories during the last month. We would love for you to come and share your family's traditions with us. You are welcome to read a favorite book, cook, share memorabilia-, whatever you like. Traditions don't have to necessarily pertain to a particular holiday either. Sharing is just another good way for the children (and adults) to get to know each other a little better:) Please email me a time that works best for you or stop in the Kindergarten Room to Sign up. Thanks!!
